Rasheka Barnes is a native of Falls Church, VA. She is a very familiar face in Fairfax County, having played at JEB Stuart HS under legendary coach Ron Wilson. Rasheka grew up playing AAU basketball for the Potomac Valley Vogues under Coach Dwight Trimmer and Fred Priester. Upon completion of her AAU career, Rasheka won the highest honor a Vogues player could achieve, The Erin McKee Award. She attended Christopher Newport University where she played 4 years under the coaching of Cathy Parson (former Washington Mystics Head Intern Coach). Along with many other honors, Rasheka lead the Dixie Conference in scoring, rebounding, block shots and assist her senior season.
Rasheka comes to PSPA having already been on the basketball coaching scene for 11 years. She has been the Freshman Girls Head Coach at JEB Stuart HS and at Centerville HS. She coached 3 season of 10U girls AAU for the Western Fairfax Mustangs (one team finished 2nd in the state at the Virginia Commonwealth Games). Aside from coaching girls basketball Rasheka has played an integral part in the coaching of boys basketball in the Bailey’s Crossroads area with Bailey’s Community Center .
****Interesting note that some may not know about Rasheka.....she was actually on hand and helped coach the first tryouts of the Washington Mystics basketball team. Rasheka worked closely with then Head Coach Jim Lewis and Assistant Coach Cathy Parson as they made their final decisions of who would be apart of the Washington Mystics.
